Unfortunately McDonagh never finds a way to convincingly execute the Southern Gothic plot .The individual elements are there but the movie is often awkwardly forcing them all together. Also, it's sort of weird that Rockwell's character is the only one with a real arc, especially when so little of it is convincing.
